Hoof conformation
A couple of pics i found interesting

Normal Leg Cross section

Acute Founder cross section

I've been reading about natural hoof care, there are a whole bunch of natural hoof trimmers out there today to trim a hoof the natural way so that horses can go barefoot. Aparently its better in alot of cases for the horse. I find the concept quite interesting, I must admit after i stopped riding and shoeing my pony his lameness issues went away and a huge bruise grew out of his hoof.

I really hope I get into school, I love researching up horse related information, I'm interested in nutrition and also care of horses in general, i think you can never know too much!

I have been proudly owned by an Egyptian Arabian and an Oldstyle Gaited Morgan for well over a decade now.

We joust, perform ballet du cheval (precursor to dressage), ride in parades, and teach children riding lessons.

My ladies are never shod except for trail rides where the terrain and/or recommendation of the property owner is that they be shod. Even then, they are shod in the front only.

I have only had one hoof problem ever, and that was a subsolar abscess caused by an incompetent farrier's bad trim.

Just my due lire.

If I can find a good trimmer, I would go natural.

yeah thats what i'm thinking :) . I'll give it a shot anyways, i am going to try to do alot of things natural. Alot of natural remedies work for skin problems, keeping insects off etc etc. I think people feel you are doing more for your horse spending cash on useless store bought stuff. You you can make your own if not better.

Just gota look around and get different ideas :)

well if you look closely at the bottom pic which is founder the way the bones sit into the hoof are different. Also the hoof wall looks elongated :)

Founder is caused mostly by horses which are too fat! their weight puts far too much pressure on their tiny little legs.
